FINE ARTS

At MJCA, we believe that all students have unique talents and abilities given by God. These talents must be developed in order for students to become servants and leaders for Jesus Christ in their community. In order to help students reach their full potential, the Fine Arts Department at Mt. Juliet Christian Academy offers classes in general music, band, chorus, drama and the visual arts.

Students in grades K-5 take art and music. 5th grade students may choose band or chorus for their music class. All elementary music classes present concerts at Christmas and in the spring.

Students in grades 6-12 have many opportunities to develop their artistic talents. Mrs. Brenda York teaches art at the middle school and high school level. Her art classes participate in art shows and competitions throughout the year and have a gallery several times during the year in the hallway outside the art room, where student art is on display.

Middle and high school students also have the opportunity to take band with Mr. Joshua Davis or chorus with Miss Kimberly Overstreet. MJCA bands and choruses have a tradition of excellence. Each group participates in annual competitions and festivals, as well as several concert performances during the school year.

Drama is offered to middle and high school students, also taught by Miss Overstreet. The middle school drama classes learn the basics of writing, acting, and production through writing and performing their own plays each semester. Each year the high school drama class presents a major musical theater production. Past productions include "Fiddler on the Roof," "Oklahoma," and "My Fair Lady." We are proud to present "Annie Get Your Gun" as our Spring production for the 2011-2012 school year.

The goal in all our fine arts classes is to teach students to use their talents to serve others and to allow God to use those talents to glorify Himself.
