HOT BASKETBALL START EARNS "AP" RANKING:

MJCA men's basketball has gotten off to its best start in school history. The Saints won their first 6 out of 10 games. After a couple of "heartbreaking" losses, the MJCA men's team has a current record of 11-4.

This great start has garnered the attention of the Tennessee media. On January 12, the Associated Press came out with their high school rankings. In this poll, they combined both the large and small Division 2 schools into one rank. MJCA got its highest ever basketball rank of 13th in the state in all of Division 2.

This came on the heels of some tough losses, one in which the Saints had a two point lead over Watertown High School in the last few seconds of the game. Watertown inbounded the ball with the length of the court to go, and made a three quarter court shot just before the buzzer, to win by one.

Out of the four losses that the Saints have, only one of them has been a greater spread than 6 points. With such a young team, this is a great sign for the future of MJCA basketball.

MJCA is looking for a strong finish to their first season back in Division 2. This weekend they travel to Knoxville to play the Kings Academy on Friday and Knoxville Webb on Saturday.

Make your plans to be a part of this historic season of MJCA basketball!

WILSON BANK & TRUST PARTNERS WITH THE SAINTS:

For any athletic department to be successful, it takes community involvement. MJCA is proud of its community, and many members of the community have demonstrated great pride in MJCA.

One group that has been a constant proud supporter of MJCA and other Wilson County Schools has been our own Wilson Bank and Trust. The relationship that the bank and MJCA have has grown throughout the years. Wilson Bank and Trust has not only contributed and supported MJCA athletics when asked, but they have also pursued us to ask for ways that they can be of help.

One of the ways that Wilson Bank and Trust has sponsored MJCA sports is by recognizing the "Wilson Bank and Trust Athletes of the Week." This award is for the female and male athlete (from MJCA) that has performed at a high level in his/her most recent games. These athletes are awarded an MJCA "Athlete of the Week" pull-over to reward their success.

Wilson Bank and Trust also sponsore first downs in football and 3 point baskets in basketball. With each first down the Saints make in football, the bank contributes $10 to the program. In basketball, each 3 pointer made by an MJCA player means that they will donate $3 to the athletic department.

This kind of community involvement has meant so much to our athletic department. MJCA would love to expand on being a bigger part of the Mt. Juliet community. We are proud to be Mt. Juliet's Christian School!

GYM UPGRADES BRING NEW LIFE TO MJCA ATHLETICS :

MJCA is very excited about the capital campaign that will eventually result in a new gymnasium for our school. However, in the meantime, the school and its donors have made special facilities improvements to our current building.

A generous MJCA family (who owns a painting company) donated their services and supplies to paint the majority of the interior of the school over the Christmas break. This included the painting of the gymnasium, track, and surrounding areas.

The color scheme has brought a new warmth to the facility, while integrating the Saints' royal blue and gold into the pattern. Many positive comments have already been passed along regarding the improvements in the current MJCA structure.

As we move forward into new building projects, it is important to take pride in and take care of the buildings that God has already provided us with. This is a collective effort. Thanks to generious families like this one, we are able to keep our facility up-to-date and provide a quality learning environment.

If you have the ability and/or means to help us in the facilities improvement area, please pray about using your gifts to help MJCA further its mission. If you are interested, be sure to contact Mr. Scheck (Headmaster), and let him know how you would be willing to help.

MJCA SIGNS DEAL WITH WINDTREE GOLF COURSE:

After several years of calling Hunters Point Golf Course (Lebanon) home, the Mt. Juliet Christian Academy Golf Program now has a new home. Athletic Director, Paul Christensen, signed an agreement with course manager, Dan Felton (this week) to make Windtree Golf Course (Mt. Juliet) the new home of the Saints.

"We are very thankful to Hunters Point for the many years that they have given our kids use of their course" said Christensen,"but we now need a more local venue for our kids to practice at and compete. Windtree will be that venue and a perfect fit for our school."

The terms of the contract will not be disclosed. However, it does include year around access for all MJCA golf team members. Donations toward this cause have already been received and will continue to be accepted. Small fees will also be asked of the players themselves to help cover the expenses. With this said, Windtree Golf Course was very generous to MJCA, in the agreement.

The Saints golf team will share the course with Cumberland University, Friendship Christian School, and Mt. Juliet High School.

STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

For the second time in as many years, T.J. Roberts is January's Student-Athlete of the Month.

Roberts has been a model citizen of MJCA for all of the years that he has been here. He continues to improve on his academic and athletic resume with each passing day. Elected to the Wilson County Youth Leadership, T.J. has the responsibility of representing the MJCA student body among the representatives of all of the Wilson County Schools. This is a huge honor for someone that is so well rounded in life.

T.J. currently plays 3 sports for the Saints (golf, basketball, and baseball), while maintaining an academic standard that will impress any university that he chooses to attend. He ranks among the top of his junior class with a perfect GPA, while taking one of the toughest class loads possible. Next year, when he graduates, he will already have earned numerous college credits for the classes that he has taken here at the Academy.

Athletically, he has been just as successful. He is currently the starting point guard for the Saints basketball team and is leading them to a record setting season. He has also been named to the District 8-A All District Team in baseball. In golf, he has anchored the number one position on the MJCA roster for many years now and holds the lowest round record (all time) in MJCA history.

MJCA is proud of T.J. Roberts for his outstanding achievments, in the areas of leadership, academics, and athletics, while a student at Mt. Juliet Christian Academy.
