MJCA ATHLETICS TO GO LIVE, ON THE WEB, BROADCAST: Mt. Juliet Christian Academy's athletic director, Paul Christensen, has announced that he expects to see MJCA football and basketball games broadcast live via-internet by as early as this season. "This will allow family members, who live out of state or out of country, to listen to the games as they happen." It will also allow Saints fans to keep up with the team, when they have away games that are too far away. The athletic department expects that the costs of this new program will be recovered through advertisements sold. These advertisements will be read by either the play-by-play man or the color commentator during breaks in the game. If you should know of someone who would be interested in advertising through these broadcasts, please suggest this to them and have them contact the MJCA Athletic Department. These broadcasts are just one more way that MJCA Athletics is seeking to expand its programs and promote its athletes. We hope that you will take advantage of supporting the Saints in this way, even when you cannot attend the games. ____________________________ HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SCHEDULE GETS SHUFFLED: The 2009 MJCA high school football schedule has experienced some difficulties, but it is starting to take final shape. Originally, we had five home games and five away games. Unfortunately, Nashville Christian School and MJCA had a mix up in comunication. So, this year, MJCA will be traveling to them, and next year they will come to MJCA. This leaves us with four home games and six away games this year, and six home games and four away games next year. The second dilemna that Coach Townsend faced was when Scottsboro Christian School called to tell us that they would not be able to play us in football this year. This game was not only a home game, but it was also our "Coming Home Celebration". This cancellation took us down to only three home games, but only temporarily. Coach Townsend made a two year agreement with Lancaster Christian School. LCS will come to MJCA this year on September 18, and the Saints will return the favor next season. This week we recieved notice that Zion Christian Academy will not have their lights up for this season (as they had hoped). For this reason they will not be able to host the Saints for a 7:00 kick-off on October 23rd. This means that this game will be rescheduled for 4:00 on October 24th (Saturday). _______________________________________

MJCA GOLF TEAM OFF TO A WINNING START
The Mt. Juliet Christian Academy men's golf team got their season off to a rainy but great start on Tuesday(8/11/09). Playing host to Hendersonville Christian Academy, the Saints were able to pull off the 176-177 win over the Crusaders for the opening match win. MJCA was led by T.J. Roberts, who shot a 39. He was followed by juniors, Grant Keen and Josh Hamilton, who both shot a 43. Rounding out the top four Saints scores was Brian Schlosser, who shot a 44 on the day. The match scheduled for today (8/13/09) has been postponed. So, the Saints will be back at Hunters Point Golf Course next Tuesday (8/18/09) as they host Lighthouse Christian School. _______________________________ MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL GETS THINGS STARTED: Coach Chelli Mosier and the middle school Lady Saints started practicing in late July and had their first real game on August 4th (the first day of school). The interesting thing about this team is that, although the number of players is substantial, there are no 8th graders. This means that the girls will be among the youngest teams in the league this year. The middle school girls play in the Wilson County Volleyball Association. This league is comprised of almost every middle school in the county. The middle schools that MJCA will play this year are Mt. Juliet Middle, Southside, West Wilson, Walter J. Baird, Carroll Oakland, Tuckers Crossroads, Friendship Christian, and Watertown. The Lady Saints are in a re-building year, but are expected to improve greatly throughout this season and be a strong contender in the league by next season. ________________________________

STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH: As we begin the 2009-2010 school year, we want to recognize the best example that we could think of for Student-Athlete of The Month. Noa Stroop has been a great example of what it means to balance academics, athletics, and a social life at MJCA. Stroop has played one year of varsity football, one year of varsity cross country, four years of varsity soccer and four years of varsity basketball. In doing so, he has been given the Best Team Player Award (Jeff Bates Award) once in basketball and once in soccer. He has also been named "Most Improved" in soccer. Academically, Noa is a member of the National Honor Society. He also takes a very challenging class load. Stroop currently is taking Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement classes. He also won the Einstein Award in Math. Noa is also a natural leader. He will be this year's President of the Student Coucil. He is also a candidate for President of the National Honor Society. Noa Stroop is definitely one who has lived his high school experience to the fullest. He has taken every oportunity to get involved in student life at MJCA and has succeeded at all of it. MJCA is proud to recognize Mr. Noa Stroop with this honor. ____________________________________ LADY SAINTS TAKE ON TWO SPORTS AT ONCE: The Mt. Juliet Christian Academy cheerleading squad looks much like any other on the sidelines of a Friday night football game. However, Monday through Thursday many of them look very different. Several cheeleaders are also members of the Lady Saints soccer team who plays their games mostly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both of these sports are very demanding, but these girls have shown a great deal of commitment and balance in both areas. Currently, there are five girls who compete for MJCA on Monday through Thursday and then cheer on the football team on Fridays. Elle Wassell, Mackenzie Anderson, Katie Cox, Melissa Smith, and Hannah Smith have all taken on this big challenge. MJCA is proud of these Lady Saints for doing all that they can to represent their school well. ____________________________________ |
