HIGH ATTENDANCE AT MJCA BASKETBALL :

Mt. Juliet Christian Academy basketball teams have always enjoyed big crowds at their games. However, this year's attendance may be the largest yet. Almost every game has had the bleachers filled to capacity (with the exception of a couple of Saturday games). This could be attributed to many factors. The MJCA Athletic Department has made an extra effort to promote these games through Edline. The high school boys varsity has had several very close games (including 3 overtimes), which are very exciting to watch. The student body has taken an interest in the teams this year. A large percentage of the student-athletes parents/families come to support the team. All of these reasons have contributed to the increased attendance and the enhanced atmosphere at the games.

MJCA is a family, and that really shows up when families of students of all ages come to support the Saints. Don't miss out on the exciting second half of this year's basketball season. You can find the schedule right here on the MJCA web site.

CLOSE GAMES ALMOST EVERY NIGHT!

The high school boys basketball team has had one of the more exciting seasons ever. Although their record is only 7-11 currently, almost every game has been a close one. The Saints have been in three overtimes already. Out of their eleven losses, seven have been within 6 points. Losing the close games has both positives and negatives. The positive is that (although very young) the Saints are competitive with almost everyone that they play. The negative would be that losing those types of games is very tough on players, coaches, and fans.

It is expected that, as this team matures and gains playing experience, more of those tight games will favor the MJCA basketball team.

Next on the Saints schedule is the Webb School. This game will also be Homecoming 2009.

LADY SAINTS WIN 6 OUT OF 8:

In a year that was expected to be a "rebuilding year" for the Lady Saints, Coach Kitchen and the girls basketball team have pulled off some surprising wins. It all started with the Watertown Classic Christmas Tournament. During this tournament, the girls won both of their games with a convincing win over Lighthouse Christian and a "nail-biting" win over Sale Creek High School. Since then, the Lady Saints have claimed wins over J. Frank White Academy, Carroll Academy, Boyd Christian, and Zion Christian. The Boyd win was the first time the girl's team has beaten the McMinville school in MJCA history.

The team has been able to do this without one of their key players. Jordan Price (6'0" Center) transferred to MJCA from Donelson Christian Academy this year and played for the Wildcats last season. This means that (by TSSAA rule) Price will be ineligible until February. However, she will be a welcome addition as the Lady Saints come down the "home stretch".

The next chance that you will have to watch this team play at home will be Friday January 23 -v- The Webb School out of Bell Buckle, TN. This game is also MJCA's Homecoming 2009.

THREE SAINTS EARN ALL-REGION HONORS:

Mt. Juliet Christian Academy is proud to announce that three of its finest young men have been named to the All-Region Football Team from Region 4. This is quite an honor, when you consider that there is so much talent in the region.

Named to this team from MJCA was Zach Orr (Sr. wide reciever), Dustan Hepburn (Sr. Lineman), and Chris Frazier (Sr. quarterback). All three of these young men have been faithful to the program and the school for all four years that they have been in high school at MJCA.

STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Taelor Barnette has been a varsity cheerleader at Mt. Juliet Christian Academy all four years of her high school career. Taylor has cheered for both football and basketball, which kept her in the sport for almost 75% of every school year. She has also served as captain of her squad. She has participated in the school drama for 3 years during high school. Taylor has also maintained a 4.0 grade point average during her time as a high school student at MJCA. Among other honors Taylor is a member of the National Honor Society and the MJCA Student Council. The students at MJCA have voted Taylor Miss MJCA, and she has also been elected senior class vice president.

MJCA is proud to have such an outstanding student-athlete representing our school. We are confident that she has a very bright future ahead.

EXCITEMENT BUILDING FOR 2009 SAINTS:

There is new life surrounding the MJCA high school and middle school baseball program. This is shown by a large number of players that are signed up to try-out for the team in one month. Coach Brent Turner will assume the head coaching position this year from Mike Jones. Coach Turner is coming off of a very successful middle school season as MJCA's head coach. He expects to dress 18 players when all is said and done.

Much of the excitement can be attributed to the facilities upgrade that Coach Turner and Coach Richard Pickle have brought to the program. This seems to have communicated a high level of commitment to success in MJCA baseball that the athletes have bought into. The Saints will have a young team again this year, but with the addition of some key players, we are expecting it to be a fun team.
