MJCA DIPS TOE IN D-2 POOL: With the move to TSSAA's Division 2 next year, MJCA's athletic director, Paul Christensen, decided to test the waters a little this year. MJCA's basketball teams will be playing several schools that will be in the region next season. Currently the boys have a 2-0 record against these teams and the girls are 1-1. Included on this year's schedule, that will be region games next year, are Zion Christian Academy, Davidson Academy, Riverside Christian Academy, and Webb. This will give the whole MJCA family a look into the future to see the schools that we will be competing against and the atmospheres in which we will be a part. The kids and coaches are excited about the fresh start that will be a part of next year's agenda. You can join in this celebration by purchasing a "Making The Move" t-shirt from the athletic department or the concession stand at basketball games. _____________________________________

NEW DISTRICT FOR THE SAINTS: As you already know MJCA will be moving to the TSSAA's Division II next school year. However, until now, it has not been announced who will be in the district and region that MJCA will be a part of. The districts have been set for all fall sports and include plenty of competition. The schools that will compete in the Saints district for all fall sports (except football) are Webb School (Knoxville), University School (Nashville), Ezell Harding Christian School, Franklin Road Academy, Kings Academy, and Zion Christian Academy. In the MJCA region (but not the district) will be St. Cecilia Academy, Donelson Christian Academy, Davidson Academy, Webb School (Bell Buckle), St. Andrews School (Sewanee), and Riverside Christian Academy. All of the other Divsion II Class "A" schools are located west of Nashville. In the football district will be Donelson Christian Academy, Davidson Academy, St. Andrews School (Sewanee), and Riverside Christian Academy. The other teams in the Saint's region (but not in the district) are Webb School (Knoxville), Lancaster Christian Academy, Zion Christian Academy, Franklin Road Academy, and Ezell Harding Christian School. However, in football, everyone has to play 3 region schools from the other district. For the next two years MJCA football will play Webb School (Knoxville), Zion Christian Academy, and Lancaster Christian Academy. All of the other Division II Class "A" schools are located west of Nashville. Basketball and spring sports districts are scheduled to be set in February. We expect the districts to look very simular to the fall, but will not know until that meeting. MJCA is excited about the new and fresh experiences that await us in DII. ______________________________________________

STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
T.J. Roberts (sophomore) plays golf, basketball, and baseball for MJCA. He does so while maintaining an honor student status with a 4.0 grade point average. He also excels in all three sports. T.J. holds the school golf record of 34 for nine holes, is the starting point guard for the Saints basketball team, and is a starting pitcher for MJCA baseball. So far this basketball season, Roberts is averaging over ten points per game and almost eight assists per game. He has also led his team to a 3-1 start. Although T.J. played and started quite a bit last season, he is expected to be a leader on the MJCA basketball team this year. ______________________________ FRESHMAN FORWARD IMPROVING FAST: Drew Hutchison (6'2"-Freshman) is Mt. Juliet Christian Academy's newest big man in the paint. These are big shoes to fill, since last year's post starters, Victor Underwood (6'4") and Zach Womble (6'4"), have both moved on to college basketball this year. This graduation left an obvious void in the paint for the Saints. However, Hutchison has been very effective so far. Hutchison is coming off the bench for Paul Christensen's young team, but leading them in scoring and rebounding. Drew is averaging 15 points per game and over 8 rebounds a game. He has also been a very difficult player for opponents to defend, which has opened up opportunity for the MJCA shooters like Austin Wortman, TJ Roberts, and Grant Keen. ____________________________________
