THE MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM (GRADES
6-8)
"Now listen to me, children. Blessed are those who keep my ways."
Proverbs 8:32
Throughout its history, MJCA has sought to exemplify academic excellence
offered in an atmosphere of Christian principles. In order to meet the
unique needs of young adolescents, MJCA began operating its middle school
comprised of grades 6, 7, and 8. This division of the school has its own
chapels, fine arts, sports, mission trips, and electives that are separate
from the high school program.
Transition and Preparation
Due to the difficult transition from pre-adolescence to adolescence, the
middle school program places high priority on staffing with educators
committed to this age group. All areas of development-spiritual, academic,
physical, and social and moral-are included in the middle school program.
The achievement of academic success with young adolescents, for example,
is highly dependent upon other developmental needs being met. The middle
school curriculum is challenging, integrative, and exploratory. Core subjects
include Bible, language arts, mathematics, science, and history. Related
exploratory classes include instructional emphasis in computer, art, chorus,
band, music appreciation, drama, teen living skills, weight training and
physical education.
Eighth grade students take physical science, which is usually not offered
until the freshman year. Our honors program begins in the 8th grade. At
this level, qualified students may opt to take Algebra I.
