March Edition

MJCA Principal's List 2007-2008

MUSIC EXPRESSION

PRESCHOOL

Preschool students have been learning about the different families of instruments in their music appreciation classes this month.  MJCA high school students who play these various musical instruments have been donating their time to display their knowledge.  The high schoolers begin by telling these students about the instrument, when they began playing and how often they practice.  The session ends with a demonstration of the skill.  The preschool students listen attentively to their "teachers" and enjoy not only learning about the instrument, but also hearing its sound.

Junior Cameron Michael shows off his skills on the drums.

SPRING BREAK

MARCH 17-21

Students walked the hallways last week pulsing with a buzz of excitement.  With the promise of spring break just ahead, both elementary and secondary students worked hard to finish up their studies before the final bell rang on Friday.  As the third quarter ends, students and teachers prepare for the last nine weeks of school and look forward to warmer weather ahead.  Seniors begin to look toward that important day, and everyone has the thrill of spring to look forward to.  MJCA wishes all of our school families a restful, relaxing and safe spring break!!

LOST SEA EXPLORATION

OUTDOOR CLUB

On March 29-30th, Joel Walsh, Outdoor Club sponsor, organized another exciting trip for students.  Members of the Outdoor Club went spelunking at the Lost Sea in Sweetwater, Tennessee.  While there, the students enjoyed deep cave exploration, boating on the world's largest underground lake, sleeping in the cave, and just getting plain dirty!  Thanks to Mr. Walsh for providing another opportunity for adventure!

PRINCIPAL'S BREAKFAST

2008

On Tuesday, March 11th, a special group of MJCA academic achievers will be honored.  The MJCA National Honor Society will host the annual Principal's Breakfast, which highlights the achievement of those secondary students who have made all A's this year.  This catered event allows both parents and students the chance to gather for a time of fellowship and special recognition.  These students have set a standard of academic excellence and MJCA is excited about the opportunity to highlight their diligence.

  YOUTH LEADERSHIP WILSON OUTING

Recently, a special group of MJCA students spent the day at the Tennessee State Capitol.  Youth Leadership Wilson, an organization that combines qualified high school juniors from various schools across the county, took its annual trip to the Capitol in order to teach its members about state government.  Paige Hudson, John Adcock, Michelle Grynn, Lee Fallin and Cameron Michael spent the day touring the Capitol, meeting Governor Bredesen, having lunch with Senator Mae Beavers and State Representative Susan Lynn and getting to experience first-hand what it's like to vote in the TN House of Representatives.  The day ended with a ride back to Mt. Juliet on the Music City Star.

PI DAY: 3/14

SECONDARY

March 13th marks a special day for all math students, and Mr. Pickle's classes didn't miss a chance to celebrate.  Pi (3.14) is the circumference of a circle divided by the diameter.  Students marked this national math "holiday" by making and wearing creative Pi Day t-shirts, memorizing the digits of Pi, and baking a variety of delectable "pies" to mark the occasion.  Some students created beautiful stain glass designs that begin with the circle.  Students left math class with a full stomach and a new appreciation for all things "Pi"!

SENIOR TRIP

2008

Once again, seniors bundled up for a trip up north.  Minneapolis, Minnesota, home of America's largest mall, was the host of MJCA's annual senior trip for the second consecutive year.  While there, seniors shuttled between the Mall of America and a local ski resort where they brushed up on their snowboarding skills.  Our senior sponsor, Coach Jones, did another great job of organizing this trip for the students, and chaperones made sure everyone returned safely.  Seniors were back in class by Tuesday (3/4) with some great memories to take with them.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHEERLEADERS ATTEND NATIONAL COMPETITION

If you haven't already seen all the new sweatshirts adorning the secondary hallways, take note.  The MJCA middle school cheerleading squad placed 3rd at their much anticipated national competition in March.  Traveling to Concord, North Carolina, they competed against over 50 other teams to bring home a trophy.  The eleven girl squad, along with Coach Tammy England, made it to nationals after winning first place at their cheer camp this summer.  Missing one girl due to an injury and choreographing their own routines, they commenced training immediately after basketball season.  Judging by the trophy with their names on it, it looks like all of their hard work paid off.  Congratuations, girls!

A MISSION OF LOVE

ELEMENTARY CHAPEL

Mrs. Jenny Bess Hibbett, LtC. Bobby Hibbett, and Carver Hibbett

Last fall, kindergarten students worked to gather a care package to send overseas to LtC. Hibbett, father to one of our middle school students, who was stationed in Iraq.  Joyfully, LtC. Hibbett returned safely from his tour of duty this month, and he took a few moments to address our student body during an elementary chapel service.

His message centered around the privileges that we all enjoy in America, primarily the privilege to worship freely.  He spoke about watching his faith strengthened in times of danger and peril, and he took the opportunity to thank our students for their contributions and prayers.  Afterwards, he presented the American flag that had flown over his base in Iraq to Headmaster Greg Scheck and MJCA.  What a moving experience to see how God works in the lives of those in service to Him!
